Fair & Fest!

A busy weekend, and it’s not over yet!

Friday, my sister and I visited the local county fair—it’s 100 years young!  We’ve been doing this intermittently since we were kids. In fact, as kids we got a whole day off school to attend the fair, free—and that is still the case!

This year I entered some items into the fair for judging, just like we did back in the day.  My mom usually entered her delicious wild elderberry jelly (which we grew up on), but she was continually disappointed (mad, even) by never getting a ribbon… Well, mom, I got this blue ribbon for you!  My other sister’s comment:  “Mom is rolling over in her grave!!!”

Anyway, our wandering the exhibit buildings and the midway was quite nostalgic, except for the sticker shock:  $6 for a soft serve ice cream cone!  (Our family always called that “Icky Freeze”)

What to do to follow up a fine day at the county fair?  A Saturday at the Maryland Renaissance Festival!  My sister and I had each sewn Bridgerton-inspired dresses over the summer, and we were eager to try them out in public.  What better place than a RenFest, where anything goes, clothes-wise!

There were plenty of fantastic outfits at RenFest—we did not look out of place despite our Regency dress:

The whole extended family got into the spirit!
